COUNTRY OVERVIEW:

Aruba is a Caribbean island belonging to the Lesser Antilles. The capital is Oranjestad and as its name suggests there is a Dutch influence – Aruba belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Good tropical weather conditions on the island provide a healthy influx of tourism (see more in Economy below). Official languages spoken in Aruba include Dutch and Papiamento which is a mixture of Dutch, English, various African dialects and Spanish and Portuguese. Spanish is also spoken.

ECONOMY:

Aruba enjoys one of the healthiest economies of the Caribbean islands. High levels of tourism provide the mainstay to the economy and employment levels are good. The Aruban Florin is pegged against the US Dollar and has a fixed exchange rate. The Dutch government is gradually decreasing its financial aid to the island in a bid to give financial independence.
