CURRENCY EXCHANGE:

There are preferred currencies in Azerbaijan and these are US Dollars, Euro and Pound Sterling. Please note dollar bills may not be accepted if they are torn or dated pre 1992. It is wise to travel to Azerbaijan with a sufficient amount of currency in cash.

Not generally accepted.

COUNTRY OVERVIEW:

This country is officially called the Republic of Azerbaijan and is located partly in Eastern Europe but also in Western Asia. The culture is steeped in ancient history culture is a mixture of Turkic, Islamic, Persian as well as Caucasus and Russian. It is a secular state, but the majority of the population practise Islam. Azerbaijan was formerly part of the Soviet Union, but declared independence in 1991.

Export of local currency prohibited. Import of local and international must be declared on arrival.

Around 8 million.

ECONOMY:

Azerbaijan is rich in natural resources – mainly oil and natural gas – which is a main economic sector for the country, as is transportation of raw materials and agriculture.
