CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS AND ATMS:

All major credit cards are accepted, although in some cases cash is preferred – it is recommended to carry sufficient cash while in Barbados. ATMs are also easy to use and frequent.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE:

As with all cases, it is recommended to arrange currency exchange before travel. But if necessary in Barbados, then the best rates are available in the main high street banks.

It is best to use Travellers Cheques in US Dollars or Pound Sterling.

BANKING HOURS:

The main banking hours are Mon-Thurs 0800-1500, Fri 0800-1700. These might alter slightly so best to check in advance if unsure.

Barbados is located in the Atlantic Ocean right next to the Caribbean. They gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1966, but many say that the influence of the English is still felt here. The island has a tropical climate. Thanks to tourism and a healthy economy, Barbados can be described as well developed. The capital is Bridgetown and the official language is English.

Barbados is known for its natural beauty and warm climate and is therefore a draw for tourists – therefore one of the main economy sectors for this country is tourism. In history, it was sugarcane that provided a mainstay for the island and despite still growing this staple, tourism and manufacture have become more dominant. Construction has also been in great increase with new hotels and homes being built, as well as office buildings.
