ECONOMY:

The economy of Bermuda is healthy and even affluent, with the main elements being finance and tourism. In 2005, it was named as having the world's highest Gross Domestic Product per capita. Before 1970, Bermuda's currency was the Bermuda pound, but since that time it is the Bermudian dollar which is pegged with the US Dollar. The notes carry the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Bermuda has an international business economy - financial services such as investment funds, insurance and reinsurance are exported and have become the largest sector of the economy there. Many international insurance companies have bases in Bermuda. Bermuda also has its own stock exchange since 1971. Tourism is also healthy, the subtropical climate and beaches being a draw to foreign visitors.
