Croatia has experienced war as recently as the 1990s. In 1990 the country held its first democratic elections and the winning party, the Croatian Democratic Union was fiercely opposed by Serbian rebels. Croatia was victorious in 1995 and has been described as having a stable economy. Main elements are the service sector, industry and agriculture. Since the end of conflict in the country, tourism has experienced rapid growth. The climate in summer is very attractive and Croatia is now number 18 in the list of most popular tourist destinations in the world.
