NOTE: kr 1,000, 500, 200, 100 and 50.

COIN: kr 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1, and 50 and 25 øre.

CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS AND ATMS:

Most credit cards accepted everywhere. ATM machines widely available.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE:

Check in advance if looking to exchange large bank notes as some banks may refuse to do this. Some bureaux de change in Denmark are open until 24.00.

TRAVELLER'S CHEQUES:

It is probably better to arrange travel money in advance but if necessary then travellers cheques are best in Euros, Sterling and US Dollars.

BANKING HOURS:

Mon to Wed and Fri 0930-1700 Thurs 0930-1800.

CURRENCY RESTRICTIONS:

There is no restriction on import of both local and foreign currency. Export of local currency is permitted to an amount higher than DKK 50000 as long as it is proved said currency was obtained by conversion of foreign currencies imported. Export of foreign currency is unlimited.

COUNTRY OVERVIEW:

Denmark is a country in northern Europe and is part of Scandinavia. A founding member of NATO, Denmark has been a member of the European Union since the early 1970s. Despite this, they have not adopted the Euro as their currency. The capital and largest city is Copenhagen.

Denmark enjoys a healthy economy with, according to one measure, the highest level of income equality in the world. It has also been described as the happiest place in the world. Support for free trade is high in Denmark and the majority of trade flows are within the EU. Exports include energy (oil and gas), fish, meat, dairy products, chemicals and more.
