DO NOT rely on credit card use in Iran - they are not accepted widely. There are very few places that may accept MasteCard but not if it was issued in the USA. There are NO ATM machines in Iran.

Iran is home to important reserves of natural gas and petroleum, which makes it a key position on international security and the world economy as a whole. Problems affecting the growth of the economy are unemployment and inflation. Perhaps surprisingly, tourism is a significant sector within Iran - it has been rated amongst the 10 most touristic countries in the world. Other sectors have seen growth - exports on the agricultural side include pistachios, dates and flowers.
