There is some acceptance of credit cards in Maputo, the capital but do not rely on these outside of the capital.

There are currency exchange services at the airport. Note it is worth carrying US dollars and South African Rand in Mozambique.

Not recommended as they are not generally accepted.

COUNTRY OVERVIEW:

Mozambique is officially called the Republic of Mozambique and it is situated in South East Africa. It was once owned by Portugal, but has been independent since 1975. The capital is Maputo and the official language is Portuguese.

POPULATION:

Around 21 million.

ECONOMY:

There has been growtth in Mozambique since resettlement of war refugees. However, the country is known as a Less Economically Developed Country. There were floods in 2000 which ravaged the country, and it has had to work to rebuild the infrastructure.
