COUNTRY OVERVIEW:

Namibia is officially called the Republic of Namibia and is located in southern Africa. It is also on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It was once a colony of Germany and then was under the apartheid regime of South Africa. It has been independent since 1990. The capital is Windhoek and the official language is English, although German and Afrikaans are recognised, as is Oshiwambo.

ECONOMY:

The main elements of Namibia's economy are tourism and diamond mining. A large proportion of the population relies on subsistence farming. Income inequality is huge in Namibia - it has one of the highest rates in the world.
