Puerto Rico is officially called the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and is a territory of the USA. Despite this, it is self-governing. It is situated in the North East Caribbean and is made up of a series of islands, the largest and main one of which is called Puerto Rico. The capital is San Juan and the official languages are Spanish and English.

Puerto Rico is described as a high income country and the main element of the economy is manufacturing. Before the 1940s the main source was agriculture. Tourism is a key sector and supplies a large amount of income to the country. Many Puerto Ricans have moved to mainland USA and it is now said that more people from there live in the US than in Puerto Rico.
