Russia is also known as the Russian Federation and is a 'transcontinental' country, which means it extends between continents - it covers most of North Eurasia. It is the largest country in the world. It was once a huge world power under the Russian Empire and was then the centre of the Soviet Union. The capital is Moscow and the official language is Russian.

POPULATION:

Around 143 million.

ECONOMY:

It has been said that the economic doom that hit all affected countries following the Soviet era was twice as bad as The Great Depression of the 1930s. The situation has certainly improved. Russia has the largest natural gas reserves in the world. It also has huge coal and oil reserves. Tax regulations were updated in 2001 which reduced the burden on citizens.
