Major credit cards are widely accepted in the main tourist areas. There are ATM machines in the capital.

CURRENCY EXCHANGE:

There are foreign exchange services in banks, bureaux de changes, as well as some hotels and larger establishments. There are even automated exchange machines in the capital.

TRAVELLER'S CHEQUES:

You can exchange these at banks - there are three in the main towns. These are best in Australian dollars and Sterling.

Export of local currency is limited to SBD 250.

COUNTRY OVERVIEW:

The Soloman Islands are located to the east of Papua New Guinea and are made up of nearly one thousand islands. The islands have been home to the Melanesian peoples for thousands of years. There was much wartime fighting during World War II, in the Soloman Islands campaign. Since the late 1990s, there has been violence and corruption on the islands. The capital is Honiara and the official language is English.

Around 550 thousand.

ECONOMY:

The Soloman Islands has is ranked as a lesser developed nation and the main elements are subsistence and fishing. The islands have plenty of natural resources in minerals but these are not very developed. Tourism is a key element of the economy.
