Tajikistan is officially called the Republic of Tajikistan and is a country in Central Asia. The people of Tajikistan share their history with the people of Iran and speak Persian - though this is officially called Tajiki in Tajikistan. It was part of the Soviet Union, and after independence fell into a long civil war. The capital is Dushanbe.

ECONOMY:

Tajikistan's economy has grown since the end of the civil war in 1997 thanks to foreign aid and political stability. Main trade products are aluminium and cotton. The main (and almost only) natural resource is hydroelectric power.
