Available at bureaux de change in stations, hotels. Make sure you retain proof of money exchange as there is black market exchange which is illegal.

TRAVELLER'S CHEQUES:

Widely accepted and best in US dollars and Sterling. Note banks may charge a fee for exchanging these.

BANKING HOURS:

Mon-Thurs 0800-1400, Fri 0900-1700 - closed over lunchtime.

CURRENCY RESTRICTIONS:

Export of local currency is restricted to TTD 200 in bank notes.

Trinidad & Tobago is officially called the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and is located in the southern Caribbean - it is made up of an archipelago, which means a group of islands. As the name suggests, there are two main islands which each take one of the two names. The capital is Port of Spain and the official language is English.

The main element of the economy of Trinidad is the petroleum industry. Other important factors are tourism and manufacturing. There has been recent growth thanks to investments in petrochemicals, LNG plants and steel. The international airport has been expanded and the infrastructure as a whole is developed for the region.
