Speedcard VEC - the Visa Electron Card for everyone - means you are not subject to credit checks.  Simply pre-load the card with your money and access from one of thousands of ATMs in the UK or abroad, as well as using the card in one of millions of shops across the globe - just look for the Visa Electron logo.  The Speedcard VEC is also great for those travelling abroad as there are no foreign exchange charges.  Open an account online via the Speedcard VEC website, note you will be asked for a photocopy of your proof of ID in order to do this.  Top up the card at any Barclays Bank branch or via bank wire. 
 
The Speedcard VEC will cost you 9.95 for card application and there is a monthly service charge of 2.45.  Watch out for the International Bank Deposit Fee (Swift In) which is 10.  Other fees apply including one for a dormant account, see Speedcard website for details.
