Cameron calls for a Referendum

David Cameron has called for a vote on whether the UK should remain in or out of the Euro. He has said that a referendum will take place before 2017 should the Conservatives win the next election. Many people are of the opinion that Cameron is calling this election not for the good of the country but for in order to appease back benchers in his own party.

While the question of Europe has been raised so many times there is most certainly a large part of the population who would like to see an end to the current system. However, the idea that “Britain can cherry pick” what it wants in the EU is not going to happen. Britain is a member of the most important trading block in the world and to leave it will cause very serious financial and diplomatic implications.

The Labour Party has presented Cameron’s referendum as a move which is not for the good of the country but his own party. However, perhaps it is time for people in the UK to exercise democracy and have their say one of the most important political issues of the last fifty years.
