Protect your ID and go Prepaid this Summer

Travel money provider ICE (International Currency Exchange) is urging holidaymakers to use a prepaid card such as the ICE Travellers Cashcard abroad this summer, to help protect against theft and ID fraud.  ID Fraud accounted for 46% of all fraud recorded in the first half of this year.

Janet Johnston, Product Manager for the ICE Travellers Cashcard said: “Travellers have been warned this week about the dangers of credit cards being swiped and copied out of sight.  We tend to let our guard down when we’re on holiday making this all too easy when we’re out in a bar or restaurant for example.  A prepaid card doesn’t pose the same risks.  PIN protected, only the amount on the card could be stolen if the PIN did get into the wrong hands and clearly there would be little value in copying the card to commit ID fraud as the funds would be limited, unlike a credit card.

“Prepaid cards offer huge benefits to travellers – you won’t get stung on credit card and debit card transactions and the rate of exchange also tends to be more competitive than credit and debit cards.  No-one wants to worry about having their ID stolen on holiday but carrying wads of cash also poses its own risks – a prepaid offers a solution to both these issues, giving holidaymakers the spending power they want with a greater level of security.”

Available in US Dollars (USD), Euros (EUR) and Sterling, the ICE Travellers Cashcard is accepted at over 25 million ATMs, shops and restaurants in over 120 countries worldwide.   It is easy to manage the account and top up online if funds get low.
