Going On Holiday – Why Not Get A Prepaid Currency Card

A lot of people prefer the simplicity of a pre-paid currency card to taking foreign currency/travellers cheques abroad or using their normal credit and debit cards. There are several advantages of using a prepaid currency card. Firstly it means that you do not have to carry around large sums of cash around with you which is risky and may ruin your holiday if you lose it or it is stolen. Moreover prepaid travel cards can generally be used like a normal card to withdraw money and make purchases so it is easy to use and no hassle getting confused over anything. In addition to this the fees that you are charged for using a prepaid currency card abroad may be lower than using a domestic debit or credit card. On top of this it is very easy to reload prepaid cards, you can do it from abroad over the phone on the internet or even via SMS, so cards can be reloaded by a third party as well as by the user.

There are however some drawbacks of using a pre-paid currency card. Some providers enforce a range of set-up, administration, loading and usage fees that can eat into the cash loaded on to them. Another thing that can irritate is the fact that some cards will dictate a minimum and maximum amount that can be loaded on to them at any given time. Another problem that people often have is that prepaid cards don’t give any kind of purchase protection guarantees that come with credit purchases.

So before you go on holiday you should consider getting a prepaid currency card as they can be very useful, just ensure you understand the terms and conditions.
