What does wedding insurance cover? Do I need wedding insurance? Find out with this handy information guide and determine the most suitable insurance for your big day.

What is Wedding Insurance?

Wedding Insurance helps to financially protect you against the unforeseen circumstances that could potentially ruin your wedding day and reimburses expenses that you have incurred. This includes covering:

  • Cancellation and rearrangement of wedding and/or reception
  • Ceremonial and bridal attire
  • Wedding gifts
  • Wedding ring(s), flowers, gifts and cake
  • Wedding cars and transport
  • Photography and video
  • Failure of suppliers
  • Wedding stationery

How much does it cost?

Wedding insurance usually comes with varying levels of protection at a reasonable price. Prices can vary from 60 - 300 depending on the level of cover you require.

Are there any exclusions?

Common exclusions include the following:

  • Medical conditions
  • Cancellation due to redundancy
  • Duration the dress is covered before the wedding
  • No cover for failure of the suppliers of gift lists
  • No cover for failure of the suppliers of wedding planner services

Is there an Excess?

As with all insurance policies, you may be required to pay an excess if you make a claim. The excess can vary and it is worth comparing this feature when you are researching what wedding insurance to take out.

How much can I claim?

The amount you can claim largely depends on the level of cover that you have taken out and the event or loss that you are claiming for.

How do I receive my claim?

Normally, once you have supplied all the details that are required to make a claim, including details of the item or expense, the reason for claiming and the details of other people that might be involved, the claims handler will assess your claim and offer you a settlement payment.

What if I have special requirements?

Many wedding insurance companies allow you to choose from these optional extras:

  • Marquee cover
  • Extension of public liability to cover all your wedding party
  • Ceremonial swords cover.
